O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1 (NASB)
Something is missing. Something is just not right. You can't put your finger on it. By the time you are thirsty or have a dry mouth you are already dehydrated. You had a vague since about it but you weren't sure. Do you know the signs of dehydration. When the loss of water from the body is greater than the water intake dehydration will occur.
I suppose you don't even have to live in the desert to become dehydrated in this day and age. But dehydration can sneak up on you quickly in the desert. You can even have water at your disposal and not be drinking it.
Do you have low energy? Are you irritable? Do you have headaches? Do you have foggy thinking or are you sleepy? These could be signs of dehydration.
Find ways to rehydrate yourself. Your body is crying out for water. Without it, you can not live.
That thirst for God can sneak up on you too and you may not even realize your need of God. Resources for God are all around and you are not using them.
Like cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a distant land.
Proverbs 25:25
These could be some signs of a thirst for God:
- weary, tired, no rest
- weakness, lacking power or strength
- carrying a heavy load, the cares of the world (or just your own stuff)
- work in vain (feeling a little bit like a rat in a wheel?)
- losing heart, being discouraged
- in despair, your soul is disturbed and without hope
If you seek God, you will find him. Your soul is crying out for God.
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:31
This is what God told the Jews in exile through Jeremiah:
For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
Jeremiah 29:11-12
Jesus said:
“ Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."
John 10:10
